DiE on AiR
Surrealist play meets social broadcasting, live on air

Supported by the CSM Changemaker programme, DiE on AiR is a 12-episode radio series that explores the tensions between UAL’s EDI (equality, diversity and inclusion) marketing versus lived student experience. We employ surrealist techniques such as Exquisite Corpse for sonic inspiration and broadcast a mix of live conversation, student surveying, open mic poetry, field recordings, music and in-depth interviews in parallel to embody diversity and push the boundaries of tradition.

The show broadcasts outside the confines of a studio to generate participatory engagement with live radio and takes takes an active listening approach to conversation over scripting.

DiE on AiR aims to create an alternative space for knowledge exchange and connection within the UAL community. The show aired weekly for 90 minutes over five months, travelled sonically to seven countries and five universities while weekly participants regularly reached the 70 mark both in person and online.

DiE on AiR surverys students and staff on the meaning of the words Diversity, Inclusivity and Equity.

In Episode 4, we re-engage in a sonic game of Exquisite Corpse, this time live-mixing sound submissions from our listeners and creating new landscapes for our corpses to lie.
